Second Junior Ladder of 2013.
Week 1 saw a rusty start to the junior ladder with a few juniors missing through injury.
Decent start to the season for the Junior Interclub Team
A Junior interclub team without last seasons number 1 out through a soccer injury did themselves proud against Sandwick, Lerwick A & Lerwick B. Josie Wishart especially did well moving up to number 1 after winning last seasons junior open. Saw him beat previous champion Kevin Moar after a very hard fought game against coach Billy Mycock saw him lose his only match. He also beat a tired Joan Smith for the first time after also having a marthan match against Billy. Thomas Marshall stepped up to position 2 and won two matches but was yet again frustrated with the competitive strategy of Ian Smith from Sandwick whom prevented him getting a clean sweep. Ryan Kirk also moved up and played well and also won two matches but was unable to beat his father Davie this time but a good effort so him take one game off him so next time maybe a different story. Craig Smith again moved up to position 4 and played 2 5 massive 5 setters one game against Magnie Eirnasson went to 18-20 that is the equivalent of 2 normal games and also ended up winning two matches and just losing out to Hannah Garrick in 5 sets. Luke Smith made an impressive debut at number 5. Winning again 2 out of his 3 matches one against fellow debutee and junior Kelvin Anderson playing for Lerwick A.
Two juniors were able to play in the Lerwick A team as well as Kelvin, Kieran Fraser also took on the challenge but being a player down in the A team had to play 5 matches make some inroads against the juniors saw him take a game off both Craig Smith and higher see Ryan Kirk. He also played ex Junior intercounty players Hannah Garrick and Leanne Jamieson. He managed to win against Leanne but lost out to Hannah. Kelvin did best at 5 against Glen Tyler making it a long 5 setter but he ran out of energy in the last two sets as Glens league experience showed through.
First Junior Ladder of 2013.
Was a pretty quick fiery affair containing only 6 weeks of intense competition and three intense competitions.
Week 1 Saw Thomas & Josie move to the top of the ladder with some intense games.
Week 2 Saw a high intensity of games and some great squash with Craig Smith and Cameron Garrick finishing on top.
Week 3 tournaments and lots of action mixes up the ladder alot but Craig Smith plays out of his skin to stay top.
Week 4 A big push by all sees lots of games and ranking changes but Craig Manages to stay top as Thomas and Patrick move towards the top.
Week 5 Aberdeen preparation continues at pace. With some tough matches.
Week 6 Smiths play well to move to the top of the ladder after 417 games sees Craig top with a massive 85 games managing to keep a 40 point gap between himself and Josie the current Under 17 & 19 Champion whom came in 2nd also getting a double century. Luke came 3rd after a tough time in the junior open reduced his win ratio to a very crediable 63% only three boys managed to break over the 70% win ration they were Joe Niven (73%), Stuart Copland (77%) & Edward Ollaberry with a whopping 88%.
