Natwest International Island Games
Squash Team
Road to Orkney 2025
This time we were unable to field a full squad due to last minute pull outs due to injuries and graduation clashes. We are fielding joint biggest team for squash with Orkney of 8 players both fielding 5 men and 3 women.
This team has been built from the top 22 players in Shetland. Injuries, work & other commitments reshaped it various times over the last 60 weeks until the final team was submitted in March 2025.
Thanks to our Squash Team Sponsors West Side Electrical, Lerwick Autobody, for providing us with our playing kit and to Intersport Shetland for printing them.
The International Island Games is the biggest multi discipline sports Shetland can compete in that includes squash! Although Bermuda, Cayman, Gibraltar and others compete in the commonwealth games. Shetland is part of the Scottish team and cannot compete in their own right.
We thank Malakoff for continuing to be the overall Shetland Team Sponsor since we competed in sunny Bermuda in 2013.
Squash has only been in the games 4 times before this summer 2005, 2011, 2013 & 2019 but Shetland has always fielded a squash team. However with the professional level of competition involved the cost of sustaining the level of training, preparation, travel and competing means that several sponsors are required so we would also like to thank the following for contributing to the overall team.
Associate Sponsor SSEN Transmission
Affiliate Sponsor Cooke Aquaculture Scotland.
Travel Sponsors NorthLink Ferries.
Supporters Harper Macleod.
Finally thank you to all the individual supporters whom bought and sold raffle tickets for our May raffle this helps to get us that last bit of funding which is vital for helping the games be more affordable for young players.
Our progress can be followed live on the two events
